Cuba: Toy Cups

We arrived with suitcases full of dolls, strollers, balls, coloring books…. The excitement was collective. My wife gives a beautiful little girl a set of pink cups and I excitedly encourage her to open the wrapper and start opening toys, but her face gives no sign of anything. Rather, she projected confusion. I was worried because I thought it was not to her liking. Immediately the mom with a humble smile tells me: “she doesn’t know what a toy is”.
Something inside me snapped again.

These are the joys and rewards that are not experienced in places where resources are plentiful or where the simple is valued.

I love missions.
